Gyrobee Questions

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO LEARN HOW TO FLY?
This depends upon several variables, such as, previous flight experience, training frequency and natural ability.  The flight portion of the training generally takes between 10-15 hours. back to top

IF I ALREADY HAVE SEVERAL RATINGS, WILL I STILL NEED TRAINING FOR A GYROPLANE?
Yes. The gyroplane is a separate category of aircraft, and formal "hands on" training is necessary. Previous training may make it much easier to transition and may take less time. back to top

WHERE CAN I GET TRAINING?
You can find reputable training centers in the United States. A good source for this information is in the Rotorcraft Magazine which is published by the Popular Rotorcraft Association. You can reach them at P.O. Box 68, Mentone, IN 46539, Phone/Fax (574) 353-7227. E-mail: PRAHQ@medt.com back to top

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE ENGINE FAILS?
The rotors will continue autorotating and the aircraft will simply glide down at about the rate of a parachute. back to top

ARE PLANS AVAILABLE?
Yes. The Gyrobee Documentation is available for free downloading via the link from the Star Bee Gyros Home Page. We will send you a CD of the Gyrobee Documentation with support photos for $10.00 by ordering online #001-CD or by ordering from us at Star Bee Gyros LLC, 221 Woodward Lake Road, Trenton, SC 29847 back to top

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO PUT THE KIT TOGETHER?
The Gyrobee generally takes between 40-60 hours to assemble using a Predrilled Kit and basic hand tools following the Gyrobee Documentation. back to top

HOW MUCH RUNWAY DO I NEED TO TAKE OFF?
This depends on ground conditions, wind, density altitude and pilot skill. Under "standard-day sea-level" conditions typical gyroplanes use about a 400 ft roll.  A prerotator aids in take off by "spooling-up" the rotors to a much higher rpm than would normally be gained by taxiing. The prerotator is great reassurance if you've landed in an area that only allows a short take-off. back to top

HOW CAN I TRANSPORT/STORE MY GYROBEE?
The Gyrobee can be easily transported on a trailer and stored in a garage.  The modified supsensoin option with the 5'6" tread makes trailering and storage easier. back to top

DO I HAVE TO REGISTER MY GYRO?
The Gyrobee is a legal ultralight if built to specifications of the Documentation and requires no licensing for either the plane or pilot other than a driver's license. back to top

IS A GYROBEE AVAILABLE WITH ELECTRIC START?
Yes, you can have electric start with the MZ 201m or the MZ 202 engine.  You will need 60+ cranking amps for the StarBee Electric Prerotator OR you could consider building with the SBG Recoil Prerotator to reduce your battery size/weight. back to top

I AM A HEAVY/LIGHT PILOT. WILL I HAVE TO CHANGE ANYTHING TO FLY?
Any weight from 120 to 250 pounds can be flown on the Gyrobee airframe as it comes.  You may need to adjust your engine size depending on your field elevation and this may force you to go for your Sport Pilot licensing. back to top

WHAT IS THE CRUISING SPEED OF A GYROBEE?
The Gyrobee has a crising speed of 55mph.  Your horse power may change your rate of climb and take off. back to top

HOW LONG CAN I FLY ON 5 GALLONS OF GAS?

A Gyrobee generally consumes 4-4.5 gallons per hour of high-test automotive gasoline.
